Officials say about $60,000 worth of fire rescue equipment was stolen from a fire station in Sturgeon County, northwest of Edmonton, early Monday morning.
Sturgeon County said the stolen tools include an industrial cutter, a cut saw, a generator, and a spreader, which is more commonly known as the “jaws of life.”
They were taken from the Calahoo Fire Station, which officials reassure is still operational despite the theft.
“This is a disappointing and senseless crime, as it impacts our community and emergency services’ ability to help people when they need us the most,” said Fire Chief Chad Moore. “We’re currently working with the RCMP to review evidence as they investigate this serious crime.”
Sturgeon County Protective Services redistributed equipment from other fire stations to minimize disruptions to service.
The county says the theft at the fire station is part of an increase in crime in Calahoo, where businesses like the general store have suffered losses.
