Police confirm pedestrian hit by Edmonton transit bus

A 35-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by an Edmonton Transit Service bus in north Edmonton on Thursday afternoon.
Police said the collision occurred at about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of 97 Street and 137 Avenue.
According to investigators, the ETS bus was travelling westbound on 137 Avenue and was turning southbound onto 97 Street on an advance turn signal when the woman was crossing westbound at 97 Street against the traffic signal.
The woman was struck by the bus and transported to hospital. No other injuries were reported.
“The safety of the public and staff is always our top priority,” said Ryan Birch, Director of Bus and Security Operations and Acting Branch Manager for the Edmonton Transit Service. “Our thoughts are with all individuals involved in this incident. The City appreciates the quick and professional response of first responders in attending to the situation. ETS is fully supporting Edmonton Police Service in their investigation. Impacted staff are being provided with critical incident support, including peer support and resources.”
Drivers were asked to avoid the area following the collision.
Edmonton police continue to investigate.
