Edmonton’s Station Park opens a new food hall after last tenant left

Vendors are preparing for the reopening of Station Park with the new food hall on Thursday, including Allen Gao, who owns Menya Mori, which started more than a year ago.
Gao is glad to see his business growing and being part of the pop-up food hall.
“Pretty excited! I think this is a pretty unique opportunity that we’re presented to be in one of the busiest and most kind of vibrant communities in Edmonton,” said Gao.
The new food hall is just off Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue in Station Park. This is the second similar business to fill this space, after the last tenant moved out, claiming a lack of parking and foot traffic in the area.
The operator, Beljan Development, declined to speak on camera but mentioned they have a different concept to provide a reason to bring people back into Station Park with events, markets, and an evolving food hall, adding they’ve been building the right team and partners to support the business.
“I think there’s a lot of really interesting businesses that are all kind of converging into one space, and I think it would be like a really good use of your time. If you come here, check out ‘Hello Mochi,’ check out Dorinku, check out Japonais and check out Menya Mori,” said Gao.
Four restaurants will be at the pop-up food hall Thursday, and will change every three weeks once it’s gone; there will be new ones to follow. The operator says this will give people reasons to get curious about Station Park.
For Gao, he hopes this will get exposure for his business.
“The most important thing is to see if customers actually care or not because we can talk about it all day long, but at the end of the day I think it’s the people that will come out and support,” said Gao.
