Six Royal Canadian Air Force helicopters are scheduled to travel from Edmonton to Alaska this week to take part in a training exercise.
The military helicopters will transit from Alberta’s capital to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, from Monday to Wednesday.
People are warned the helicopters could attract attention both by their presence and by the noise they’ll make. The aircraft could fly as low as 500 feet from the ground.
The CH-146 Griffon helicopters from 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron are participating in the “Striking Bat” exercise.
It’s described as a “large-scale, multinational combat training event designed to prepare military forces for operations in Arctic and sub-Arctic environments.”
The exercise runs from Jan. 28 to Feb. 28.
“It focuses on realistic training that replicates large-scale combat conditions and involves 1 Wing personnel working alongside United States Army aviation units and other international partners, including Norway, Italy, and Mongolia,” the RCAF said in a statement.
