Fingerprints at crime scene lead to arrest in West Edmonton Mall jewellery store theft

Edmonton police say they managed to make an arrest in a West Edmonton Mall jewellery store theft earlier this month because the suspect left fingerprints at the scene.

The Edmonton Police Service is crediting the forensics in their identification of a suspect who was already known to police.

Officers obtained the fingerprints following the May 5 robbery. A man allegedly entered the store, tried on some jewellery, then discharged pepper spray as he fled with the items.

After identifying a suspect, Edmonton police say they determined he was also a suspect in several other jewelry thefts across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Troy Jason Boss, 42, is facing charges of theft over $5,000, failure to comply with a probation order, and breaching the conditions of his release order. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
