19-year-old charged with murder in central Edmonton death

Police say a 19-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with a homicide in central Edmonton over the weekend.

The Edmonton Police Service was called to 106 Avenue and 113 Street for a weapons complaint on Saturday around 6:30 a.m.

Officers arrived to find an injured man. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Alexander Edward Colin Reid. An autopsy Monday determined he died of gunshot wounds and was the victim of homicide.

Hayden Halcrow was arrested Tuesday. In addition to the second-degree murder charge, he was also charged with numerous other firearms related charges. Halcrow was wanted on a warrant for attempted murder for a shooting in May.

The allegations against him have not been tested in court.

Homicide investigators are hoping to get video footage of:

  • A dark-coloured SUV fleeing around 111 Street to 115 Street and 103 Avenue to 107 Avenue on Saturday between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m.
  • The area of 113 Street between 105 Avenue and 106 Avenue between 6-7 a.m.

“We’re aware there was an incident just prior to Mr. Reid’s death during which a firearm was handled recklessly in a crowd of people,” said Det. Michael Walkom with the EPS homicide section. “If anyone witnessed or has video footage of this behaviour, we are asking them to please contact us as soon as possible.”
