Edmonton police say a man previously accused of sexually assaulting four women he met on dating apps is now facing more charges after additional women came forward.
The Edmonton Police Service says five additional women have come forward in the investigation into William McMullin, 56.
There are now nine total complainants, and police believe there could be more – some dating back to 2021.
McMullin allegedly communicated with women through online dating platforms such as Facebook Dating, Bumble and Tinder.
A woman who reported being sexually assaulted told police she was invited to McMullin’s home, where she was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted.
The accused was arrested March 17 and charged with multiple offences, including sex assault, voyeurism, assault with a weapon and unlawful confinement.
After police alerted the public, authorities say five more women came forward. McMullin is now facing 10 additional charges.
Investigators allege the offences occurred in Edmonton and Calgary.
“We know that coming forward can take immense courage, and for many people, it may take time,” says Staff Sgt. Brian McGuigan of the EPS sexual assault section. “If you believe you were harmed, you are not alone. Our investigators are committed to approaching every report with compassion, dignity and care, and we encourage anyone with information, no matter how long ago the incident occurred, to reach out.”
McMullin remains in remand; he is next scheduled to appear in court May 22.
Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by McMullin is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567.
