2 men charged in fatal house fire in St. Albert

Alberta RCMP have charged a suspect with first-degree murder in the February death of St. Albert woman Mia Diab, and say she was killed for financial gain. Lauren Boothby reports.

Alberta RCMP says two men have been charged in connection with a fatal fire on Keystone Crescent in St. Albert in February.

RCMP says emergency crews were called to a home on Keystone Crescent around 12:18 p.m. on Feb. 19 for reports of a residential fire. Once the flames were extinguished, a body was found inside.

That body was later identified as 59-year-old Mai Diab, who police believe was targeted.

“The investigation has determined that the victim was specifically targeted by these suspects for financial gain,” said Staff Sergeant Derrick Gladdish of the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit. “Through community support and effective collaborative efforts between our Major Crime Unit, St. Albert Detachment members and others, we were able to quickly identify and connect these suspects to this crime.”

Mounties were able to take 44-year-old Mouhamad Fadi Orfahly from Edmonton into custody on March 9, and he was charged with first-degree murder.

The second man — 43-year-old Mahmoud Ali Abdallah Mansour — was taken into custody in Toronto. He has since been transported back to Alberta and charged with indignity to human remains and accessory after the fact to murder.
