Man charged after fatally hitting woman with pickup truck west of Edmonton

Alberta RCMP says a 52-year-old man has been charged after allegedly hitting a woman with his truck, before loading her into the box and driving away from the scene.

Around 8:38 a.m. on May 27, Mounties responded to a report that a man driving a pickup truck had reportedly hit someone, before loading that person into the bed of the truck and driving off.

Several RCMP were called in to assist in a search for the truck. Both the driver and the person who was hit were located, and the driver was eventually taken into custody.

The person who was hit was later identified as 46-year-old Danielle Sanders of Evansburg, Alberta. Mounties confirmed that Sanders died in hospital on May 28.

An autopsy was performed on May 29, and the cause of death was ruled to be a homicide.

RCMP say 52-year-old Neil Gow has been charged with aggravated assault, dangerous driving causing injury, and flight from police. However, police note that the aggravated assault was withdrawn and Gow was charged with manslaughter on June 1.
