An Edmonton police constable is facing several charges, including sexual assault, in an alleged incident from more than two years ago, according to Alberta’s police watchdog.
The investigation into the sex assault allegations by the Edmonton Police Service officer while he was on duty began Sept. 8, 2023.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) did not indicate when the alleged offence occurred, only when it was notified.
ASIRT says evidence gathered during its investigation “provided reasonable grounds to believe that an offence had been committed.”
The investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), which determined the evidence met the standard for prosecution.
On Wednesday, Const. Renzo Geronimo was charged with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, unlawfully in a dwelling house, and breach of trust. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 10 in Edmonton. None of the allegations have been tested in court.
