Officer shoots man inside RCMP Strathcona County parking lot

Mounties shot a man who appeared to be holding a gun in the Strathcona Country RCMP detachment parking lot Monday morning.

Following the incident that happened at around 10:30 a.m., the man was rushed to the hospital.

Officers believed he was holding a firearm while inside the parking lot, leading to a Mountie firing their weapon and striking him.

Strathcona County RCMP Superintendent Barry LaRoque said in a news conference that it’s a rare incident, and isn’t sure how the man got inside the fenced-off parking lot.

RCMP say they notified the director of law enforcement immediately afterwards, and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating the actions of police.
