Edmonton police say one person is dead and four were injured, including a 12-year-old boy who is in critical condition, in a collision involving two vehicles in south Edmonton Sunday evening.
The Edmonton Police Service says the collision involving a Mazda 3 and Chevrolet Silverado happened at Parsons Road and Ellerslie Road around 7:10 p.m.
All five occupants of the Mazda were taken to hospital, where a 49-year-old woman who was the passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead. The 20-year-old driver sustained minor injuries; a 12-year-old remains in critical condition; and a 16-year-old boy and 52-year-old man are in stable condition.
The 31-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet, a 30-year-old woman and an eight-year-old boy were not injured. A man and two children were also in the Chevrolet at the time of the collision, police say, but left prior to officers arriving.
Investigators say the Mazda was travelling north on Parsons when the driver attempted a left turn just past Ellerslie. Police say at the time, the Chevrolet was travelling south on Parsons and collided with the right side of the Mazda, “causing extensive damage.”
Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with footage of the collision to contact EPS at 780-423-4567.
The EPS major collision investigations section (MCIS) is investigating.
