Edmontonians gathered Saturday to raise money for Edmonton’s foodbank.

The fundraiser, ‘Run for Edmonton,’ is just one of many across Canada with the same goal in mind, organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association.

Organizers said that this call to service and humility is an important part of what it means to be Muslim.

“For us, this event plays a critical role in the training and upbringing of our youth, our seniors, our families,” said Mubashir Khalid, Head of Social Services Department, Muslim Elder’s Association. “This event helps us to inculcate the habit of giving back to your community, the volunteerism.”

“To come out and help your fellow neighbour,” he added.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association has organized at least 35 of these events, all run by volunteers, with donations going to local foodbanks, hospitals, shelters, and more.

Those who wish to offer their support can donate through their website or are encouraged to donate to the Edmonton Food Bank directly.
