Edmonton police officer shoots man fatally in confrontation; ASIRT investigating

Alberta’s police watchdog is looking into a police-involved shooting that occurred in the Fraser neighbourhood Saturday evening.

EPS says just before 9:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of 153 Avenue and Anthony Henday Drive after receiving a report that a vehicle had rolled over.

It is believed through reports that the driver of the vehicle was impaired leading to the collision.

Officer reports also indicated that the man fled the vehicle on foot before police arrived at the scene.

Police say it was during this time that a confrontation took place and an officer shot at the man.

Paramedics then responded to the scene and took the man to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries.

EPS noted the man was not in police custody at the time of the shooting.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has now taken over and is looking into the incident.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact ASIRT.
