RCMP in central Alberta says a snowmobiler died Saturday when they hit a steel cable that had been extended across a river.
It happened at around 4:30 p.m. along the Blindman River northeast of Rimbey on Range Road 15.
The 25-year-old woman from Bluffton, which is north of Red Deer, was with her spouse and friends snowmobiling in the area when she hit what police describe as a “long intertwined steel cable.”
Mounties say she was flown to Edmonton hospital by STARS ambulance to the University of Alberta hospital, but she died of her injuries.
It’s unclear if there are any other injuries.
Police ask anyone who might know who could have installed the steel cable across the river to call Rimbey RCMP at 403-843-2224 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
