Police are providing more information into last month’s brazen daytime jewellery store robbery in Edmonton.
On Tuesday, the Edmonton Police Service shared stills from surveillance footage of the April 27 robbery of Gold Star Jewellers in the Bonnie Doon shopping mall.
CityNews first reported on the robbery two weeks ago, which saw masked robbers burst into the store wielding hammers.
CCTV footage initially shared with CityNews – and now made public by police – shows four masked people wearing all black with their faces covered entering the store and yelling at the manager and others to get down.
They smashed glass cases with hammers, stuffed jewellery into bags and were gone in under a minute. The robbers made off with gold chains, diamond pendants, emerald and ruby bracelets, and more valued at $250,000, according to the store’s owner.
Edmonton police did not provide much information at the time, beyond confirming the robbery involved four suspects.
Now EPS is saying five suspects arrived at the mall in a black 2010-2012 Hyundai Santa Fe – with Saskatchewan licence plate 187 NYN – and they parked outside the mall’s east entrance. Police say four of the suspects robbed the store, while a fifth stayed behind in the vehicle. After the robbery, the four suspects ran back to the Santa Fe and fled the scene.
Authorities add no firearms were involved.

Edmonton police are hoping members of the public may have information on the suspects or the vehicle. Investigators are also hoping to speak to a male customer who was in the store when the robbery began. They can call the EPS at 780-423-4567.
