Edmonton police looking for truck linked to new year’s death

Police are investigating the recent death of a senior in central Edmonton. Officials say the victim’s personal vehicle was recently recovered in Calgary. Elliott Knopp reports.

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says officers are looking for a missing vehicle that is believed to be linked to a suspicious death that occurred on New Year’s Day.

Officers say around 1 p.m., they responded to a reported sudden death at a home near 107 Avenue and 106 Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man dead. At the time, the man was not identified, and investigators were treating the death as suspicious.

An autopsy identified the man as 70-year-old Ronald Bell. The Edmonton Medical Examiner also stated the death could be ruled a homicide due to the cause of death, which Edmonton police withheld.

EPS says Bell’s truck — a black 2011 GMC Sierra with the license plate 77N 728 — has been missing since New Year’s Day and was last seen on a video leaving an alley between 106 Street and 107 Street on Dec. 27.

Police say they are also looking to speak with people that live near Bell in order to shine some light on their investigation.

“While our investigation has accounted for the whereabouts of some of the individuals associated to the residence during this time, others have yet to be located,” says Det. Jared Buhler with the EPS Homicide Section. “We are asking the people who were living or visiting Mr. Bell’s home at this time and with whom we have not already spoken, to please come forward to police immediately.”

Anyone with any information regarding the missing truck, the death of Bell, or was near 107 Avenue and 106 Street between Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, and Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023 is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
