4-year-old girl dies after being struck by vehicle in northeast Edmonton: police

Police say a four-year-old girl died after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Edmonton on Sunday.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says it happened on 66 Street and 170 Avenue around 5:15 p.m.

Authorities say the child was walking through a parking lot with her mother when she “broke free” and ran onto 66 Street. She was then struck by a Jeep.

EPS says bystanders began life-saving measures, and the child was taken by EMS to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. She died of her injuries in hospital.

Police say the 23-year-old woman driving the Jeep remained on scene.

Investigators don’t believe speed or impairment were factors in the collision.

The EPS major collision investigations section is investigating.
