Edmonton man stopped for using cellphone while driving, drugs found in vehicle: police

A 35-year-old Edmonton man is facing drug trafficking charges after being arrested in Fort McMurray last Thursday.

Mounties say officers were patrolling downtown Fort McMurray when they saw a man using his cellphone while driving.

Authorities say “observations made during the traffic stop” turned the situation into a drug investigation.

The man was arrested and police seized 67 grams of suspected cocaine and $2,600 in cash.

Nasir Siraj Hassan is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 29. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
