161 vehicle break-ins reported to EPS’ downtown branch in past month

A total 287 vehicle break-ins were reported to two Edmonton Police Service branches in the past 30 days.
Some 161 vehicle break-ins were reported to the downtown branch, while 126 were reported to the west branch.
Police say wallets, ID and other personal property were stolen.
Edmonton police say it’s part of a concerning and persistent trend.
In its 2025 year-end crime statistics, the EPS indicated theft under $5,000 from motor vehicles increased 17 per cent across the city.
Authorities are urging Edmontonians to lock their vehicle doors, close their windows, remove valuables from plain view, and park in well-lit locations when possible.
“Many vehicle break-ins are crimes of opportunity. Taking a few moments to secure your vehicle and remove valuables can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim,” says Staff Sgt. Sean Parker from the EPS’ West Branch.
