Edmonton police are looking for a man after a pair of “random” stabbings put two people in hospital in critical condition on New Year’s Eve.
The Edmonton Police Service says a 63-year-old man was walking near 111 Avenue and 96 Street around 9:15 p.m. when he was stabbed by an unknown man. Paramedics treated the victim for significant injuries and transported him to hospital in critical condition.
Police say 20 minutes later, a 45-year-old father standing at the Kingsway Transit Centre with his son was stabbed. He was taken to hospital by EMS in critical condition.
The suspect reportedly fled on foot toward the downtown core.
Investigators believe the same man is responsible for both stabbings. They have released surveillance images taken from the Kingsway Transit Centre.
He is described as between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a black hoodie, black jacket, blue jeans and carrying a black and green backpack at the time of the Kingsway Transit Centre stabbing.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 780-423-4567.
