Alberta health authorities warn of possible hepatitis A exposure at Sherwood Park coffee shop

Health authorities in Alberta say people who ate or drank at a Sherwood Park coffee shop this month may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

A public alert was issued about a possible exposure at Roasti Coffee Co. on Brentwood Boulevard.

At risk are those who consumed food or drink prepared at the location on Aug. 4 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Aug 13 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

They may be eligible for a post-exposure vaccine and are asked to call Health Link at 811. A post-exposure vaccine can prevent infection within two weeks of exposure, the according to the alert.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver infection caused by a virus and spreads through contaminated water or food or through close contact with someone who’s infected.

Symptoms include tiredness, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain and fever, dark-coloured urine and yellowing of eyes and skin.
