Fort Saskatchewan teenager arrested after youths shot with airsoft gun

Police northeast of Edmonton say a 17-year-old has been charged in connection with the shooting of an airsoft gun at other youth as part of a social media challenge.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP say he was arrested Friday, two days after authorities warned the public about youth shooting each other with the imitation weapons.

Authorities say they received numerous calls about it. They believe it’s linked to an online challenge that’s been appearing in Canada for about four years.

The teenager is facing charges of assault with a weapon, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, and more. He was released from custody and is awaiting a court appearance.

Police say he was arrested with help from the public and a Fort Saskatchewan RCMP school resource officer.

The investigation is ongoing.

Mounties note airsoft guns are regulated like firearms and say firing them in public is illegal.
