Charges laid in crash that killed dog walker in north Edmonton

Charges have been laid in connection with a fatal pedestrian collision that happened in northeast Edmonton in November last year.

On Sunday, the Edmonton police charged a 36-year-old woman with failure to yield to a pedestrian under Alberta’s Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation as well as careless driving under the province’s Traffic Safety Act.

On Nov. 15, a 2024 Nissan Rogue was travelling southbound on 82 Street and making a left-hand turn onto 153 Avenue when it struck a female pedestrian who was crossing 153 Avenue northbound in a marked crosswalk while walking her dog.

The 58-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries, but later died. The dog ran away following the collision, but was later found and returned home

The 36-year-old driver was not injured and remained on scene.
