CityNews has confirmed more child sex assault charges against an Edmonton daycare worker, after a second alleged victim came forward.
Court records show a new Canada-wide warrant against 32-year-old Dilpreet Singh Chawla was issued Thursday. On three more charges — sexual assault, contact and consel against a minor sometime between October 2023 and the end of June.
That’s around the time the Willowbrae Academy Mill Creek removed the 32-year-old staff member from the daycare when a first child disclosed alleged abuse.
Edmonton police, addressing the charges for the first time Monday, say Chawla has left the country and they are working to have him brought back to Canada.
Adding, because he is outside the country, there is no immediate risk to the public, but not answering questions about how many children have come forward.
CityNews has spoken with parents who are shocked, frustrated, and worried their kid may be the next to share.
Supports for families are being provided through the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.
In a statement to CityNews, the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, says, “If a parent suspects their child may have been harmed, they can start by having a gentle, open conversation with the child. If they disclose anything concerning, the parent should report it to the police immediately. Zebra may then become involved if the case meets our criteria. We work with our partners to ensure the child (and their safe caregivers) come to the Centre as soon as possible for an interview. Our partners have specialized, highly trained child forensic interviewers on site who work with the child to get all relevant information that they can about the incident.”

The daycare’s director previously said they are fully cooperating with police and the provincial licensing authority.
“The safety and well-being of the children entrusted to our care is our highest priority, and we take this responsibility with the utmost seriousness,” said the daycare in a statement.
“As soon as we are made aware of an allegation, we immediately notify provincial licensing authorities and the Edmonton Police. We have been fully cooperative with their investigation at every step and continue to work closely with them as this matter proceeds.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and we encourage parents and guardians to continue to come forward and share any information with police. As this matter is before the courts, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”
