Human remains found just outside Edmonton identified as missing 25-year-old woman

Police say partial human remains found northeast of Edmonton earlier this year have been identified as those of a 25-year-old woman who was reported missing in April 2024.

The Edmonton Police Service says Teanna Lacoursiere was identified through a match from the National DNA Data Bank last month.

Lacoursiere’s partial remains were discovered in a wooded area near Aurum Road and 17 Street in January. The remains were examined by the medical examiner on Jan. 20. Lacoursiere’s cause and manner of death have yet to be determined.

“Deep snow cover and winter conditions prevented a full search of the surrounding area at the time, and plans were made to expand the search in spring,” EPS said in a news release Thursday.

The EPS missing persons unit searched the area throughout April and May, police said.

“The search area was large and forested, which made this particularly complex,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin Harrison with the EPS historical crimes section. “Investigators planned to complete a full grid search prior to issuing a public notification in hopes of gathering important evidence that would advance the investigation.

“With that grid search complete, we are now appealing to the public for any information that might help shed some light on how Teanna’s remains ended up in this location, as we believe the circumstances to be suspicious.”

Lacoursiere, who was also known to go by the name “Mistey,” was five-foot-one, weighing 120 lbs. She had blue eyes and brown hair, though she was known to change her hair colour, and had a tattoo across her chest.

Anyone with information about her, her associates and activities leading up to her death is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
