Edmonton police say seven people have been charged in connection to an assault in central Edmonton in December.

EPS says around 4:15 a.m. on Dec. 27, officers responded to a report of an assault at an apartment complex along 100 Avenue and 102 Street.

Reports indicate that a man was found injured in the common area of the building where he had been attacked by a group of people.

Paramedics also responded to the scene and took a 32-year-old man to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Through an investigation, police learned that the assault occurred following an after-hours event in the events room of the building.

“The excessive violence in this incident is shocking and unacceptable,” says Det. Roy Paulino with IRT. “Sadly, the 32-year-old male is unlikely to recover from his injuries and he and his family will be managing the life-long impacts of this attack.”

Police have been able to identify, locate, and charge seven people who were believed to be involved.

Two 17-year-old boys have been charged with attempted murder. Police note one of them is facing additional charges including possession of a firearm and improper storage of a firearm.

Additionally, 18-year-old Cody Trott, 21-year-old Isaiah Saddleback, and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with aggravated assault.

Another 17-year-old boy was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm, and improper storage of a firearm, all of which in connection to assaulting a bystander who was reportedly attempting to stop the attack.

Lastly, 20-year-old Aleshia Gladue was also charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, obstructing justice, and criminal harassment for threatening a witness.
