Grande Prairie peace officer charged with distributing child pornography: ALERT

By News Staff

A peace officer working for the City of Grande Prairie was charged with child sexual exploitation offences, police say.

It follows an investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ (ALERT) internet child exploitation (ICE) unit, which began as a tip from the RCMP’s national child exploitation crime centre.

The RCMP alleged the accused shared child exploitation materials on social media.

ICE began its investigation in January.

Computers and electronic devices belonging to the accused were seized, police say. ICE will continue its investigation through a forensic analysis.

Daniel Emond, 32, was arrested Thursday and is charged with accessing and distributing child pornography.

He was released on court-imposed conditions. His next scheduled court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 11.
