Two Alberta men charged in connection to Canada-wide senior’s lottery scheme: RCMP

Two Albertans, including a man from Edmonton, have been charged in connection to a lottery fraud.

High River RCMP say investigators have been looking into a lottery scheme that had been targeting seniors across Canada after receiving a report that a senior had been defrauded of over $200,000.

In conjunction with the RCMP Federal Policing Integrated Money Laundering Investigative Team (IMLIT), Canada-wide warrants were issued for two Alberta men in June.

Mounties say on June 21, 21-year-old Dwayne-Ann Aaliyah Johnson from Edmonton was arrested at Toronto Pearson International Airport after attempting to travel to Edmonton from Jamaica.

Johnston was charged with four charges, including fraud, possession of property obtained by a crime, laundering proceeds of a crime, and possession of a forged document.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 28.

RCMP say 23-year-old Romeo Junior Spence, from Alberta, turned himself in to RCMP in Grande Prairie.

Spence has been charged with fraud, possession of property obtained by a crime, and laundering proceeds of a crime.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 21.
