Police in Taber, Alberta say they had to deal with 20 ostriches running around town Thursday.

The RCMP started getting calls just before 8 a.m. for reports of the flightless birds on the road in the area of Highway 36 and Township Road 94.

Officers say the ostriches were causing traffic hazards wherever they ran. One of the birds was hit and killed on the roadway, police add.

A video circulating on social media appears to show a man attempting to grab an ostrich from a moving vehicle.

“Over the last several hours, RCMP have supported the farmer in locating and capturing the loose birds. A video taken by a local resident that has been provided to media depicts an RCMP police car with the ostrich owner riding on the passenger side grabbing one of the ostriches,” RCMP said in a release.

Mounties helped the owners safely catch all but a couple of the ostriches as of 12:30 p.m.
