An investigation has been opened by homicide detectives into a death from last year.
Dwight Bennett, 39, went into medical distress at the Blue Quill Garden Apartments at 12025 25 Ave. on June 20, 2024.
EMS responded and transported Bennett to hospital where he passed away later that day.
It was believed Bennett’s death was non-criminal in nature until police received new information in May of 2025.
A second autopsy was performed on July 30, results showed that Bennett’s death was a homicide.
The cause of death is being withheld for investigative purposes.
“Although this homicide is now over a year old, we believe someone out there knows something,” says Acting Inspector Rob Bilawey from the EPS Homicide Section. “Even the smallest piece of information could be the key to helping us understand what happened to Dwight. We’re urging anyone with knowledge about his death to come forward—no detail is too minor.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
