79-year-old woman killed in east Edmonton after vehicle crashes into building

Police say a 79-year-old woman is dead after her vehicle crashed into a building in east Edmonton on Friday evening.

The Edmonton Police Service says a Suzuki SUV was reportedly weaving between traffic lanes while going east on 118 Avenue near 67 Street around 5:45 p.m.

The vehicle then mounted the curb at 66 Street, according to police, and slammed into a building. Both the vehicle and building were damaged.

Police say witnesses pulled the woman out of the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures. EMS arrived and pronounced her dead on scene.

The cause of the collision remains unknown. EPS Major Collisions Investigation Section (MCIS) officers are investigating.
