Escaped convict serving manslaughter sentence arrested by EPS, RCMP

A convict who escaped a minimum-security correctional facility in Edmonton five weeks ago is back in police custody after a police chase Thursday.
Kalum Christian Auger, 31, escaped the Stan Daniels Healing Centre on May 30. He was serving a nearly seven-year sentence for manslaughter/use of firearm.
On Thursday, Edmonton police spotted a suspicious sedan leaving Beaver County, where a stolen truck was last seen. The RCMP were asked to assist.
Police say the sedan fled after officers attempted a traffic stop.
With help from RCMP officers from multiple detachments and an EPS helicopter, a spike belt was deployed to disable the vehicle.
“The lone occupant fled on foot and attempted to steal a vehicle from a local farm yard, however was quickly arrested by police,” RCMP said in a news release.
Auger was charged with flight from peace officer; carrying a concealed weapon; possession of a controlled substance; illegal possession of government documents; and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.
He is scheduled to appear in court July 15 in Vegreville.
“We are pleased to have this offender who was committing crime in our area back in jail,” said Cpl. Kenneth Petruik, acting commander of RCMP’s Toefield detachment.
