High Level evacuees could return home soon

HIGH LEVEL – It’s still a waiting game but now residents of High Level are hearing they may be allowed to return home in the coming days.
While High Level’s mayor is cautioning that nothing is written in stone, she is optimistic residents could return as soon as this weekend.
Crystal McAteer said that essential services will have to be restored first.
Around 5,000 people from High Level, Mackenzie County and nearby First Nations have been out of their homes for about a week.
The last recorded size is approximately 130,000 hectares and is closing in on firebreaks built around High Level.
The wildfire smoke is also making an impact on air quality for northern and southern Alberta.
In Calgary, Environment Canada is forecasting an Air Quality Index of 5 for Tuesday, which is rated a moderate risk.
