West Edmonton drug bust: police arrest 3 suspects, seize cocaine and contraband cigarettes

Police say three men are facing charges after authorities seized a gun, cocaine and thousands of contraband cigarettes during the search of a home in west Edmonton last month.

The Edmonton Police Service says its drug and gang enforcement section (EDGE) searched the home at 214 Street and 49 Avenue on Nov. 25.

Police say they seized 632 grams of cocaine (street value of $37,000); a loaded handgun; 89,020 contraband cigarettes; $34,000 in cash; as well as cell phones, scales and baggies.

Two vehicles – a Range Rover and Mitsubishi Outlander — were also seized.

Edmonton police allege three men were inside the home at the time and were arrested.

Cengizhan Yurtcu, 18, Havanna Green, 22, and Uighuy Tulake, 22, are facing joint charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking; possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000; and possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

Staff Sgt. Marco Antonio with the EPS organized crime branch says the ages of the accused “are particularly concerning.”

“We encourage anyone, especially youth, to make choices that avoid criminality,” Antonio said. “Involvement in drug trafficking and gang-related crime can lead to devastating consequences, not only for the participants but for our community at large.”

The allegations against the three accused have not been tested in court.
