Man charged for lighting couch on fire in Hinton hotel

A 56-year-old man has been charged after allegedly setting a couch on fire in Hinton.
Mounties responded to a report of a fire at the Big Horn Motel around 4:33 a.m. on Nov. 19.
Emergency services responded and ensured that everyone was able to safely evacuate the hotel, and Hinton Fire and Yellowhead Fire were able to put out the fire.
Through an investigation, police learned that a man had set a couch in his room on fire using a propane torch.
Mounties have since charged 56-year-old Jason Sean King with arson by negligence and failing to comply with a probation order.
He has since been released and is expected to appear in court on Dec. 3.
