The Edmonton Oilers are back in the post-season after back-to-back Stanley Cup final appearances.
Edmonton needed a hand by way of any result besides a Winnipeg regulation win, with the Jets losing 7-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday night.
The Oilers fell 1-0 to the Los Angeles Kings earlier in the day and fell one point behind the Golden Knights for the Pacific Division lead after Vegas defeated Colorado in OT. Anaheim remains one point behind the Oilers.
Anton Forsberg made 27 saves in his third shutout of the season while LA throttled the high-powered Oilers, who have knocked the Kings out of the playoffs in each of the past four postseasons. They also shut down NHL scoring leader Connor McDavid, who was left visibly frustrated after being called for two minor penalties, including a key holding call with 5:33 to play.
Connor Ingram stopped 19 shots for the first-place Oilers, who will host Colorado on Monday.
Edmonton played without injured forward Jason Dickinson and lost forward Max Jones to an undisclosed injury during the game.
This marks the seventh straight year Edmonton has advanced to the playoffs. In both 2024 and 2025, the club reached the Stanley Cup Final but fell to the Florida Panthers.
