Man, 78, dead after crashing into street light during ‘medical episode’ in central Edmonton: police

Police say a 78-year-old man is dead after he allegedly lost control of his vehicle during a “medical episode” and collided with a street light in central Edmonton on Monday night.

The Edmonton Police Service says it happened around 9:39 p.m. at 106 Avenue and 75 Street.

The man was driving east on 106 Avenue when he reportedly lost control of his SUV, swerved across the westbound lanes and went over a curb before colliding with the light pole.

Authorities say witnesses attempted to provide first-aid before he was taken to hospital by paramedics life-threatening injuries. He was declared dead in hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

The EPS major collision investigations section is investigating.
