All-season multisport facilities in Calgary, pickle ball courts in Spruce Grove and community rink upgrades in Edmonton are among the sports projects across Alberta getting grant funding from the province.
The Alberta government is investing $7 million to support 14 sport and recreation infrastructure projects – from Okotoks to Lubicon Lake.
The projects include curling rink upgrades, indoor turf fields, snowmaking upgrades for a ski hill, and arena renewals.
The province says the “Active Communities Initiative” grant funding will strengthen local economies – to the tune of an estimated $60 million – by creating new facilities and expanding or maintaining existing ones.
“I am proud to support projects that help Albertans live healthier and more active lives,” Minister of Tourism and Sport Andrew Boitchenko said. “In many places, recreation centres serve as hubs for the community. With the Active Communities Initiative funding, more Albertans can enjoy sports and connect with others close to home.”
