Edmonton woman charged with second-degree murder, arson following house fire in Montrose neighbourhood

A woman was charged with arson and murder of a 35-year-old man in Edmonton’s Montrose neighbourhood. Residents around the area react to the incident that happened during Labour Day weekend. Our Leo Cruzat report.

The Edmonton police has charged a 20-year-old woman with second-degree murder and arson following a house fire in the Montrose neighbourhood last Sunday.

On Sunday, August 31, EPS officers responded to a call from Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS), who were at a residential house fire in the area of 59 Street and 119 Avenue, when they located a deceased individual inside the home.

Police say an autopsy was completed on Thursday. It was determined that Javier Hull, 35, died of multiple stab wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.

EPS Homicide Section has arrested and charged Ciana Hamelin, 20, with second-degree murder and arson.

Edmonton police told CityNews, that the two were known to one another but it is not considered intimate partner violence.
