A man is dead, and police are looking for a suspect vehicle following a hit-and-run crash on Highway 1 in Southern Alberta.
RCMP say officers were called to an abandoned vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Range Road 131, around 20 kilometres east of Brooks, around 4:10 a.m. Monday.
Officers arrived to find the vehicle damaged and the doors open. A man’s body was found on the side of the road next to the vehicle.
Investigators believe the driver of the vehicle struck an animal and pulled over to check the damage when he was struck by another car. The second vehicle did not stay at the scene.
Mounties have identified the victim as a 30-year-old man from Andrew, Alta.
Police are now looking for the vehicle that left the scene and describe it as a grey or silver Volkswagen that will have damage on the driver’s side.
Anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash, or may have dashcam video from midnight to 4:30 a.m. near the crash site, is urged to call Brooks RCMP at 403-794-4400, or submit tips anonymously to CrimeStoppers.
