Cyclist killed after being hit by pickup truck in south Edmonton: police

Edmonton police say a 39-year-old cyclist was killed after he was struck by a pickup truck on 63 Avenue Monday afternoon.

Police say the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. The 60-year-old pickup driver was not injured.

The Edmonton Police Service believes the cyclist was riding his bike east on 63 Avenue when he tried turning left on Gateway Boulevard shortly after 4 p.m. He was struck by the pickup, which was going west on 63 Avenue and had a green light, police say.

EPS investigators do not believe speed nor impairment on the part of the truck driver are factors.
