Edmonton police are looking to try and identify a vehicle and driver that allegedly almost hit an officer last week.
EPS says around 12:33 a.m. on May 7, officers were investigating an unrelated matter near 64 Street and 12 Avenue.
While the officers were investigating, a white SUV reportedly turned onto 12 Avenue from 66 Street and drove toward an officer who was standing next to their police vehicle.
“Thankfully, our officer was able to quickly react and move out of the way, avoiding serious physical injuries,” says Acting Det. Ashleigh Pollock with the EPS Investigative Response Team (IRT).
“This was a deliberate attempt to harm an on-duty police officer while they were in service of their community, and we are appealing to any witnesses or individuals with active dash camera footage in the area to please come forward.”
After missing the officer, the SUV continued down 12 Avenue before turning south on 62 Street.
A police helicopter was then called to the area to try and find the vehicle in question, but was unsuccessful.
Police have released a video of the incident in question and are asking if anyone has any information, including who the owner of the vehicle is, to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
