Edmonton police say shootings within the city saw a big increase in March.
In the latest monthly statistics, EPS said shooting in March more than doubled the total number of shootings in February and increased by 54 per cent compared to March 2024.
In March, police recorded 20 shootings, which is up from February’s total of eight and March 2024’s total of 13.

“While we saw a sharp uptick in shootings last month, it’s important to note that the overall trend year over year remains stable and continues to be a marked decrease from years prior,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart of the EPS Guns and Gangs Section.
“Gun crime is often unpredictable, particularly in large urban centres, but our Guns and Gangs Strategy has proven effective in tackling this violence, and our teams will continue to diligently pursue this strategy to keep Edmontonians safe.”
Of the 20 shootings, police say 17 were believed to be targeted, and eight had injuries. Additionally, none of the shootings resulted in deaths, however, 17 had the potential for innocent bystanders to be harmed.
