Former Contentment Social Services director charged with fraud: Edmonton police

By CityNews Staff

Edmonton police say a woman has been charged in connection to a fraud investigation.

EPS says on Dec. 3, they received a report of fraud involving Contentment Social Services — a social agency that was providing support to vulnerable clients who receive government funding to assist with their living expenses.

Through an investigation, EPS learned that there had been similar allegations dating back to Dec. 2023.

Investigators also found that the agency’s former director used her position of trust to gain access to the victim’s bank account, and took money without the victim’s knowledge or consent.

As a result, on Feb. 26, police took 33-year-old Shum Shabot Yousouf and she was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 and one count of theft over $5,000.

Police believe there may have been more victims, and are encouraging anyone who may have been a victim to call investigators at 780-423-4567.
