Wanted gang member taken into custody in Edmonton

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) says a 35-year-old man who was a wanted gang member was taken into custody last week and has since been charged.

ALERT says Francis Boysis self-identified as a member of the A$AP street gang and was wanted on a Canada-wide apprehension and suspension warrant.

According to police, A$AP stands for Always Strive and Prosper and is a street gang that is in northern and central Alberta as well as correctional institutions. They are known for drug trafficking, home invasions, robberies, stolen property and they rely on violence.

On Feb. 14, officers arrived at Boysis’ home after receiving a tip from an EPS patrol team of his location, and was taken into custody after trying to flee through a basement window.

A subsequent search found that Boysis was in possession of a 22-caliber rifle, which ALERT says on top of being a prohibited weapon, was in violation of his prohibitions.

“A prohibited firearm in the hands of a wanted gang member would have posed a serious community safety threat. But our intelligence-led model was proven effective and we were able to make a quick arrest,” said Insp. Angela Kemp, ALERT.

Boysis has since been charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a prohibited device, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,  possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition readily accessible, uttering threats, use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence, and seven counts of possession of a prohibited firearm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 26.
