Woman dead after being hit by car on Ellerslie Road

Edmonton police say a 53-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Ellerslie Road near 66 Street Saturday night.

Officers say they responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian around 9:30 p.m.

Reports indicated a 2008 Toyota Camry was driving east on Ellerslie towards the intersection, entering it as the light changed from yellow to red.

At the same time, a woman began crossing the street, before the pedestrian signal had activated, and was hit.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police note the 19-year-old driver remained at the scene and spoke to officers.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision.
