Stuart Skinner’s wife reveals her family has received death threats

In a recent podcast, Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner’s wife, Chloe, revealed that she and her family have been getting death threats.

On the Breaking the Ice podcast, Chloe was asked how she handled negativity and hate from the public based on the position her husband is in.

“My DMs can be filled with death threats towards the kids, to myself,” she explained on the podcast.

She would add that the accounts are often anonymous and those individuals are “hiding behind their screens.”

“It can get really ugly,” she continued. “People wanting, threatening to come if they ever see us, they’re gonna, you know, take us out or whatever.”

Chole would go on to explain that while her husband has social media accounts, he doesn’t see how bad things can get.

“Stu doesn’t have social media. Like, he has the accounts, but he’s not running them. He generally does not see what people are saying about him. And I think, you know, the narrative this year is that bullying works. Like, I see a lot of fans being like, our bullying is working. Stu’s doing so well now. And I just want to, you know, put it out there that doesn’t work. He’s not reading the nasty, nasty comments that people say about him, and he has no idea,” she explained.

“I, on the other hand, I’m just a girl, and I have social media, and I like to scroll through things. So you know, I as I should. So, I do see a lot of it. I spent a couple of months off Instagram this year because it did get a little ugly and I wasn’t handling it very well.”

Skinner, who is from Edmonton, playing for his hometown team, posted a regular season record of 26-18-4-3 while also going 7-6 so far in the playoffs.

He will be starting in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final.
