Partial systems outage affecting Canadian airports resolved: CBSA

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says a “partial systems outage” impacting airports in the country has been resolved.

“Service has been restored,” the CBSA said on social media Tuesday afternoon. “We thank travellers for their cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience experienced.”

The agency did not provide any further details about the outage.

In an earlier statement to CityNews, Vancouver International Airport said it was “aware” of the outage “impacting the Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK) at airports across Canada, including YVR.”

“These self-service machines are used by all travellers arriving to Canada from an international destination during the customs and immigration process,” YVR explained before noon.

“As CBSA works to resolve the issue, CBSA personnel are manually processing all international travellers. As a result, passengers at YVR may experience longer than normal custom clearance times. Our Guest Experience team will be answering questions and providing information to affected travellers in our Customs Hall,” YVR continued.

In Toronto, Pearson International — Canada’s largest airport — said the issue affected “the Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK) in Terminals 1 and 3,” but the kiosks are now operational.

“You may experience longer than normal wait times at customs,” the airport warned at the time.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport says customs processing was slower than usual but there was no major impact to the airport so far.
