Clothing boutique on a bus travels around Alberta

As the clothing store business is changing, instead of having a traditional brick and mortar model, a pair of Spruce Grove women started a mobile clothing boutique business that goes around Alberta. Our Leo Cruzat shows us more of Boutique On Your Street by Wendy Smith.

A pair of Spruce Grove women are shaking up the clothing scene with a bus converted into a mobile boutique.

Wendy Smith along with her business partner started Boutique On Your Street in July of last year.

“I actually wanted to open a shoe store and soon discovered I could either rent one or stock one, but I couldn’t do both. And so thirty days later my business partner and I found a bus…had been renovated and stocked and we’re hitting the road,” Wendy Smith said.

The pair found an old Strathcona County mini bus in Facebook marketplace and it was renovated by her business partner’s friend. According to Smith, the purchase and the renovation cost an estimated $30,000.

While there are advantages of having a mobile clothing boutique, there are some challenges Wendy faces when operating the store.

“Storage … as any business, even the brick and mortar knows, storage is always an issue. So we have to get creative with that as well, but we are doing good so far.”

According to Wendy they are happy with their mobile clothing boutique model and plan to expand its business in the future.

The store has a variety of women’s apparel and accessories from Europe and Canada.

Boutique On Your Street posts their schedule of their mobile pop up store in their Instagram and Facebook
